Ways to Get Involved
The Adams County Education Consortuim needs your help in our efforts to improve Adams County through education. It will take a community-wide effort to make a lasting impact that will not only benefit today's learners, but tomorrow's learners as well.
There are a number of ways for you to get involved with ACEC. You can volunteer to help with any of our events, help financially support or efforts or register to work with our schools.
| OPPORTUNITY | DESCRIPTION |
| Adams County Commissioners' Career Expo | This is the largest event of its type in the area and the flagship program for ACEC. This county-wide career exploration event for 5000 8th graders provides students the opportunity to meet with area professionals to explore possible career choices. Students take a self-assessment to narrow their investigation and bring business cards to exchange with you. |
| Experience 9 to 5™ | This high school program builds on Expo discoveries by allowing students up to 10 contact hours in a professional field of interest. Employers meet with students at their worksite and provide hands-on experience, answer specific questions about preparation, promotion, and career paths. |
| Backpacks to Briefcases | Graduating High School Seniors etiquette meal where professional table hosts engage students in professional conversation while all are being instructed on proper dinner etiquette, dress and networking. |
| Healthcare Pathways | Are you a heatlhcare provider willing to open your doors to high school, college or university students needing clinical hours in order to complete their course requirements? By helping these students gain work experience you are directly contributing to the workforce of your future. |
| Student Interview Day | High School upperclassmen need experience interviewing with higher education and business professionals as a capstone requirement for post-secondary readiness. This program gives you the chance to help polish these student presentations with them and give them the confidence to tackle the real opportunities ahead. |
| WorkforceConnect | This program is a joint venture between businesses and educators designed to offer area teachers, guidance counselors and administrators a chance to see the application of academics in the workplace. Businesses present an industry overview, projected hiring needs, employment skills needed, etc. to the educators to help aid them in the development of their curriculum. |
| Financial Literacy Content and Advisorty Committee | The State of Colorado has mandated financial literacy standards for all students grades K - 12. Help educators provide relevant, accurate and applicable instruction keyed to the achievement levels articulated by the State Standards. Additional work with family members is also possible with this program. |
| Community Service | Are you or do you know of an organization that looks for student volunteers to help with community projects. If so, join our program that is announced to all AC youth of ways that they can support you in these efforts. |
| Adopt a School | By adopting a school you and your company make a commitment based on the needs of a particular school. Schools interested in the adoption program submit detailed proposals on specific needs and how they would incorporate these needs into their curriculum. You as a business have the opportunity to review the submissions and see what is the best fit for your organization. Then in cooperation with the school your employees volunteer their time to help implement the program. |
| Apprenticeships | Apprenticeship programs allow students a hands-on experience in the field they are considering as a career. Programs such as these also help students build leadership skills and confidence while focusing on their career development. |
| Tutoring | Math or writing assistance for students of grades 5 - 12 where the students will provide a demonstration of the area of difficulty they are having and will look to you for assistance in overcoming that issue. You will be able to see the growth of your students in their proficiency and contribute to the elimination of their gap in performance. |
| Mentoring (online) | Discipline or career specific mentoring programs provide students with someone they can talk with candidly about their career choices. It takes 5 - 7 adults who care for a student to graduate from high school. This direct touch lets you answer questions and help students fine-tune their curriculum and career planning throughout the year. |
| Contest Preparation | Whether it is Robotics, Math Counts, DECA or any other area where students must compete to demonstrate proficiency, we need your help as a judge, coach or guide. |
| Industry Road Show | This program is designed to provide students and families the opportunity to learn about career options from industry professionals. Business professionals from a single industry or pre-arranged industry clusters present their company profiles, current job openings, qualifications required, training and social and human services support available. This can also provide the opportunity for employers looking to hire immediately to meet with possible candidates. |
| Industry Bus Tour | In this program, area employers travel to one high school in each of the Adams County school districts to view first hand existing programs in these schools and meet the educators and students involved in them. Hear from the students about the skills they possess and connect with educators who shape the curriculum taught in the schools. |
| Career Academy | Area school districts are working to enhance the career relevance of instruction at all grade levels. For these to be successful, initial and ongoing participation by professionals as advisors, content experts, co-teaching resources, guest speakers are needed. |
| Speaker | Ever think about that one person who motivated you and helped you choose a career? You've been in the business world, wouldn't you like to share your experience with students just planning their careers? Who better than those with real-life experiences. Here is the opportunity to talk about your industry, what motivates you, the rewards of your career, the services you provide the community, or any other topic you would like to present. |
