Adams County Education Consortium has been engaged in healthcare workforce preparation for over two years.  Ongoing postings of most recent reports, studies and grants will continue to be posted over time.

Health Professions Collaborative Releases 2011 Policy Document

The Colorado Health Professions Collaborative has released their 2011 policy document. The Collaborative is composed of 25+ organizations that gather bi-monthly to work together to understand the challenges facing Colorado's health care workforce, and to craft policy and operational responses.

ACEC was named the convener for two healthcare pipeline projects on behalf of multiple metro Denver counties in 2009. 

Most Difficult Occupations to Fill

With help from the Department of Labor, we undertook an effort to clearly identify the employer needs in highest demand occupations that require training of an Associates Degree or less.  Occupations that fell into this category include:

radiation therapists
respiratory therapists
medical and clinical laboratory technicians
dental hygienists
cardiovascular technologists and technicians
diagnostic medical sonographers
nuclear medicine technologists
radiologic technologists and technicians
emergency medical technicians and parametics
dietetic technicians
pharmacy technicians
psychiatric technicians
surgical technicians
respiratory therapy technicians
surgical technicians
licensed practical and licenses vocational nurses
medical records and health information technicians
opticians, dispensing
occupational health and safety technicians
nursing aids, orderlies, and attendants
psychiatric aides
occupational therapist assistants
occupational therapist aides
physical therapist aides
dental assistants
medical assistant
medical equipment preparers
medical transcriptionists
pharmacy aides

This project involved a team of workforce centers, education providers and economic development agencies trying to address a shortage that could result in new local training programs and better advisory to area K-12 and higher education institutions on employer needs, opportunities and expectations.

A full report of the shortage in Adams, Arapahoe, Broomfield, Boulder, Denver and Jefferson counties collects all available data regarding the estimated needs.

In addtion to this project, The Colorado Health Foundation makes it possible for The Center for Nursing Excellence, Central Colorado AHEC and the Adams County Education Consortium to work together to help overcome the bottlenect in healtcare instruction.  We are working to:

A. Locate healthcare providers who are willing to become clinical locations to help instruct our next generation of nursing and allied healthcare workforce.

B. Enable healthcare interested students to evaluate their interests and skills relative to the full host of healthcare occupations in order to select the pathway that best matches their interests and skills.

C. Work to compile a database of area healthcare professionals with proper certifications and an interest in teaching at the high school or college level, full or part time.

D. Help train healthcare professionals to be Clinical Scholars within their organization.
